Sofia Quraishi was born in 1974 in Vadodara, Gujarat. Her father is Taj Mohammed Qureshi, and his family had a military background and he himself had served during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Her mother's name is Halima Qureshi.

She is married to Colonel Tajuddin Bagewadi, hailing from Konnur village in the Gokak taluk of Karnataka's Belagavi district. They married in 2015. Sofia Quraishi is currently serving at Jammu and her husband serving at Jhansi. She has a son named Sameer.

Sofia Quraishi hails from a family of military service; her grandfather was also an Indian Army personnel. She achieved her Master's in Biochemistry in 1997.
